Upgrading to five stars. We have eaten here 10 times in the past two years, which puts it at the top of our list in terms of repeat stops. Why? First - Price to Food ratio - Consistently good/great food at a reasonable price. It's not cheap, but it's not expensive. Never have had a bad meal, most are excellent. Best Fish Fry in the Valley, IMHO. Not your chain clone - willing to take risks Second - Good service. It's not white linen, but prompt, they pay attention and take some extra steps. Third - Nice Beer/Wine selection - they bat above their weight. It's not a huge list, but wheat they offer is above average and different - not generic. It is loud, and it gets busy - this is a downtown place people and it's rocking people. If that's not what you want, go elsewhere. I can't downgrade a place for being what it is.

I have been there for dinner once. Their menu is not that long. I chose to have a salad and it was a good sized salad and good tasting. It's a great spot to got for beers and drinks. We have met friends there for drinks. Nice outdoor seating with a large fire pit. I can't wait to go when it cooler out to enjoy the fire.

Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to try the food. The two of us were seated immediately, which was excellent for a Friday night. However, after sitting for 40 minutes without drink service and with our menus still open, we left. Will try again and hopefully have more favorable service.

NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FOR 30 MINUTES: I can't really rate anything except for service and decor. My husband and I called ahead last night and made a reservation (9/28@ 7:20pm) at the Livery, when we walked in they had our name and quickly seated us at a table near the bar. When we were seated the menus were already on the table. We literally waited 30 minutes to be greeted or for some one to take our drink order or something, anything. A waiter that was within 2 ft waiting on other customers walked toward us twice and then looked away when I made eye contact. I had no reservations about walking out after not being acknowledged for 30 minutes. Instead, we decided to drop $100 at Mona Lisa's and loved our divine foodand service! Thanks "the Livery" for failing so that we would leave for a better experience.

More of a place to go on the weekend for a drink. I don't like the food but my friends and family do! I don't view it as a broad range and def not somewhere to take your kids!

The restaurant is inside an old renovated livery stable (used to rent horses for hire). Large rolling door located at front of building that is opened during pleasant weather. In back is an outdoor eating area with a large fire pit that creates a nice atmosphere when dining at night. Salmon wrap is very good. They serve the best fried calamari I've found in Eau Claire.

Have been here 3 times now and all 3 times have been disappointed. The jerk chicken wrap was awful, very dry and the seasoning reminded us if what moldy jalapeño would taste like.

Good food, great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend it and we will be back again. Oh and the dipping sauce for the sweet potato tots is amazing

Nice venue. No service. Asked the bartender where to sit as I walked in. I sat at a table and waited 15 minutes while she played with her phone behind the bar. It was a Monday, not busy, she just didn't give a crap.

I went here for a private event recently, and was very impressed. The upstairs space was large and accommodating with long and round tables, a private bar, and a buffet table for the masses. The bartenders were very professional, courteous, and mixed up some deliciously strong concoctions. If I lived in Eau Claire, I'd definitely eat/drink here frequently.

Dined here at the suggestion of a local. It was 7:00 on a Friday night. We requested a low table due to mobility issues. They told us it would be a fifteen to twenty minute wait. We found a place to wait at the bar. I had trouble sitting in the high chair at the bar, but we waited, and waited. It was :30 before a table opened and was bussed. We sat there another full ten minutes as the host had disappeared and we waited, both feeling a bit exhausted after a long day. This was even after my wife had gone back to check on the status of our table and they'd assured us that we'd be seated as quickly as one opened up. We were finally seated and our server arrived promptly to get a drink order. She returned with our sodas and we ordered our grub. I chose the brisket with fried potatoes, slaw and baked beans. My wife ordered the cider house rules salad. It took longer than it should have for our food to arrive. The dining room was full, but it didn't seem like the waitstaff was rushed or anxious. Maybe the kitchen was struggling on a high volume night. Our server stopped by once within three minutes of dropping off our food. That was too early for us to answer the question of how things were and if we needed anything. Well, it is okay if the server plans on stopping back at least once more during the meal. But that didn't happen. In fact, my wife had been feeling a bit sick (unrelated to the meal) and excused herself from the table. So I realized that I had to finish my meal, find the server and ask for a box for her salad, which she had barely touched. But I could not find my server. The other servers came and went three or four times during this period. Ours was M.I.A. When we needed to pay the check and bail, we could not. My wife was suffering with nausea and we both would have liked a refill on our diet white soda but none came until we were brought the bill--which we had to wave her down to request. So we paid and left as quickly as we could. But it was longer than acceptable to wait for a server from the time the food came and she checked in until we saw her again. I'm a fan of silent service, but not invisible service... So how was the food? My wife's salad was disappointing. It only had six thin slices of apple, craisins, greens mix, and a light application of a sweet vinaigrette. It came with one crostini and an application of a soft white cheese that was either camembert or brie. It was more memorable than the salad, and they ought to give a second one along with it... and more apple. My brisket was superb, a savory treat with a few burnt ends thrown in for extra taste. The slaw was the best I have had in awhile, and the potatoes were pretty solid, but a tad over cooked. The baked beans were of great texture and consistency but were sweeter than even nearby Altoona's famous Bush's Best. They were just a bit too sweet for my liking. More bacon, less brown sugar... So I left a lesser tip of about 13% because I was disappointed by the service, the care of the host, and the mediocre designer salad. I know that as a former server I expect a lot. I admit that this can lead to unmet expectations, so your mileage may vary. But if you need to sit at a low table for any reason or physical disability, do not dine here on a weekend night. They only have four tables of this sort. Most of the tables are the high seat variety that seem to be trending lately in new bar/restaurants. That is a troubling development. It means that many guests cannot easily partake. And the heavy curtain in front of the door as one exits is a hazard. It's hard to walk through with a cane or a wheelchair, and one could not see an incoming guest because it is completely heavy and opaque. So watch yourself or wear a helmet.

Updated. Wish I could take back all the stars I have them at the beginning. Service has gone to crap, food just isn't consistent. YOU LOST ME AS A STEADY (2-3) a month customer. I'm taking 2 stars back. Their service has gone down hill. I didn't want to admit it. But it's true. Last night while waiting 45 minutes for a table. There were three tables empty for over 20 minutes. The THREE hostesses were standing around talking Went up to them to ask why we couldn't be seated to be told "the they are for people who put in reservations" THE TABLES SAT EMPTY FOR ANOTHER 10 minutes. The hostess staff needs to have better training in time managements. We love this place!! Food and service has always been great. Turkey club and Reuben's are always spot on. The place is clean. They have a game room in back. We are there atleast 2times a month.

My date and I sat at the bar around 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Minutes later, another couple sat at the bar. They were greeted and their drink orders were taken. Moments later, their menus and drinks arrived. A threesome sat down next to them and they too were promptly greeted and served. We feared the worst. Perhaps we had become invisible! Our fears were alleviated when the bartender strolled by, looked right at us, and said "I will be right with you folks" Hurray! We were, in fact, NOT invisible! We were just receiving really bad service. Eventually we got our bottled beers and ordered lunch. My "medium" burger arrived rare and my date's pasta arrived cold. We received our bill and noticed that our bartender charged us for three beers - though we only had two. He fixed the error promptly. To review: we received subpar food, a check error, and service so bad we questioned our own visibility. Still, we are rating The Livery two stars because they have a great outdoor firepit open in warmer months. We will wait until Summer to return.

I love the atmosphere and the food but the staff is always disappointing. I would recommend some basic customer service training.

Was there with a friend and enjoyed my experience at the bar. The bartender was very polite towards us. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very comfortable, if you are looking for something nice and casual and not to loud, the livery would be a great place to be. I highly recommend this place! Good food also :)

I've downgraded my 2012 5-star review to a guarded 4-star rating. They were a weak 3 last summer based on really marginal bar service (long wait time to get a simple drink, even when the ace wasn't busy). I think the service has improved. Friendly and faster. Unfortunately my three buddies have boycotted the place, so I seldom come in anymore. Today? It's good. The patio with fire put is a plus, except that is where the smokers go, so not a good place to eat dinner, unless you like cigarettes wafting in your face.

The bartenders need some work. We went there last Saturday night & the service left a lot to be desired. At one point we asked one bartender if he could wipe down the bar top from its previous occupants & he threw the bar rag down in front of us & walked away. Really? No need to go back anytime soon.

Good food. Best when it's slow. Service is spotty. I come here pretty regularly, and I've never seen the same staff person twice.
(4)Alan C.
Good food and atmosphere but the wait at the bar is always too long. If the service could just get up to par I would recommend but until then there are other spots I would rather spend my money.

Went on a Tuesday night with a friend for a couple drinks! You enter the restaurant/bar into a large curtain (weird but I get it to keep the cold out) and were immediately greeted by a girl to help us. We sat at the bar and managed to have a wonderful night!! Great atmosphere and had the Cod fish sandwich which did not disappoint! The sandwich was enough to fill me up! My friend had the Quinow (sp?) salad that she absolutely loved! A couple of glasses of wine completed our experience! Definitely would return!!

My family and I love this place. The atmosphere is really cool and the food is out of this world. They have the best thought out new drinks in Eau Claire. The Cuban pulled pork sandwich with a fried egg is fantastic!

Friday night. Not that busy. Been waiting for service over half an hour. Ridiculous. Wish I could try the food

Go here for the booze, not the food. The food is adequate, but not nearly as good as the other restaurants in the Mogenson empire.
(3)Katie F.
I have 3 words for you: prickly pear margarita. It rocked my world. Food was mediocre. The atmosphere was great. I'll be back, but it'll be to belly-up to the bar and kick back margaritas.
(3)Fastergirl R.
Cool venue. The food.....forgettable and expensive for forgettable, too. The hamburger was way disappointing. Forever tainted by the creepy Mogensens and brood.

Good food and ambiance, decent beer selection, but oh god does their music suck. Extremely yuppie. Expect giant portions. We've been several times and the service has always been fine.

I was surprised to see the low rating that The Livery had gotten. I believe they have the best fish fry in the Chippewa Valley. I haven't been in town for quite some time, but if they're still using grouper then I recommend giving it a shot. I love their beer selections, and the atmosphere is something great -- doesn't matter who you are or your age -- you'll feel like you belong there. The only poor remark I have is their rabbit dish missed its mark. Tasted too much like its emulsifier ingredient and not enough like rabbit.

Our server was Brittany and she was great! Very polite and attentive! Our food was outstanding! I had the cool cucumber turkey burger! Every bite was so juicy and tasteful! It was on the special menu and definitely should go on the regular menu! My fiance had the the Cuban and boy was he a happy camper! It had awesome flavor! We can't wait to come back and try everything else! Props to the cook today!

Interesting menu, quality food, good selection of drinks. Their menu has a pretty board set of choices. Everything from basic bar sandwiches to bbq brisket. Cheese curds are pretty good, and their onion rings are excellent. This place is in a renovated livery stable from the early days of Eau Claire. It's in the new up-and-coming Phoneix Park neighborhood. The dining room is noisy, but the back patio is beautiful and much quieter. They have a game room with darts and pool, and at night there's a pretty active bar crowd. Highly recommended for dates, but probably not very kid-friendly.

I have dined here on numerous occasions and the food is great but service as everywhere else can be spotty. I tried the salmon burger with sweet potato tots and the best part of thee meal were the taters. The sandwich was smoked salmon with a caper tarragon sauce which did not get added until I noticed it was missing. The smoke taste overwhelms the protein and the sauce when it arrived at least made it semi edible.

Friday night fish fry. Yum!! Called ahead for our group of 11 and they were very accommodating. Had great service. Group ordered chicken wings, fish fry, beef brisket and everyone was very happy with choices. Would definitely return. Downside is the acoustics. Very loud, had to almost yell to each other.
